Ajinkya Rahane was born on 6th June 1988 in Ashwi Khurd village of Sangamner Town in Ahmednagar district (Maharashtra). His father Madhukar Rahane is a farmer whereas his mother Sujata Rahane is a homemaker. Rahane has a younger brother Shashank and a younger sister namely Apurva Rahane.
At the mere age of seven, Ajinkya’s father took him to a small cricket coaching camp on a matting wicket at Dombivali, as he could not afford proper professional cricket coaching. After 10 years, he undertook his further professional journey under the auspicious guidance of former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre.

Ajinkya Rahane Early Days
Ajinkya Rahane represented his school team SV Joshi High School at the U-16 level. At the age of 17, Rahane started to attain coaching under former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre in Dombivali. Rahane developed his game under the skillful coaching of Amre sir. He was soon inducted into his cricket club’s U-19 team.
Rahane performed brilliantly at the Mumbai U-19 leagues including the Harris Shield and Cooch Behar Trophy. This led to his selection in the Indian U-19 team for the New Zealand tour where he proved his caliber by scoring a couple of centuries. He was later selected for the Mohammad Nisar Trophy in Pakistan where he performed brilliantly.
Ajinkya Rahane Domestic Career
Rahane made his first-class debut for the Mumbai cricket team against Karachi Urban at the Mohammad Nisar Trophy in September 2007. Rahane scored a marvelous knock of 143 runs on his debut that led to his selection in the Rest of the India squad for the Irani Trophy. In the Duleep Trophy 2007, Rahane recorded a score of 172 runs against England Lions for West Zone.
Rahane scored a massive 1089 runs in his second Ranji Trophy season 2008-09 which included a knock of 265* runs against Hyderabad. He was the crucial factor in Mumbai’s 39th title win. At the Irani Trophy match against Rajasthan, Rahane impressed the national selectors and scored 152 runs to pave the way for his selection to the national test team.
In his List-A career, Rahane made his debut against Delhi at the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2007. He stood alongside Wasim Jaffer to record a gripping partnership of 171 runs that included his 61 run score. He was selected for the Emerging Players tournament in Australia where he scored two consecutive centuries to mark his ODI debut for the Indian team.
Rahane is currently the Captain of the Mumbai Cricket Team at Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also led India C and India Blue team at NKV Salve Challenger Trophy.
Ajinkya Rahane International Career
Ajinkya Rahane made his debut for the Indian team in a T-20 match against England. He scored a beautiful inning of 61 runs of 49 balls and continued to be inducted in the T-20 team till the 2014 World Cup. Rahane’s strike rate was a major concern for the shortest format as he was dropped from the T-20 team and failed to make a positive comeback.
Rahane’s excellent performance in the T-20 series grabbed him an ODI spot against England where he performed well in the series. He was picked up for the Australian series where Rohit Sharma’s heroics overpowered his batting position. Rahane was a part of the 2015 World Cup team where he failed miserably and short-lived his ODI career.
Test Cricket has been Rahane’s cup of tea but his struggle to get in the XI was immense. After traveling with the team for 16 months and witnessing the debut of 7 fellow mates, Rahane was handed his Test cap against West Indies in 2013, owing to the injuries of Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir. He failed miserably at the debut as he failed to cross the single-digit score.
Despite Rahane’s low string of scores, he was granted another opportunity at the South African series where he scored at an average of over 60. Rahane proved his caliber with the bat in Test cricket and is a regular Test player in the national team. He later performed outstandingly in the Australian, England, New Zealand, and Sri Lankan tours.
In 2017, Virat Kohli was injured in the 4th test match against Australia at Dharamshala which made Rahane the 33rd Captain of the Indian test team. Ajinkya Rahane was picked by the Mumbai Indians franchise in 2010 but featured in a limited match. He was released ahead of the 2012 Auction and was picked by the Rajasthan Royals franchise. Rahane had a successful campaign for Rajasthan in 2012 as he scored match-winning knocks of 98 against Kings XI Punjab and 103 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
After the ban of Rajasthan Royals in 2016, Rahane represented the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise in 2016 and 2017. He was the leading run-scorer for the franchise in 2016. The revoke of Rajasthan’s ban led him to be picked by the franchise through a Right to Match Card. Following Steve Smith’s ball-tampering scandal, Rahane led the Rajasthan Royals franchise in 2018 IPL.
