Chelsea defeated Manchester City by 1-0 to win its second UEFA Champions League 2021 Title. The dream of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to lift the title for the third time was shattered as Chelsea played the upper hand in a tense final. Kai Havertz scored the lone goal for Chelsea in the final played at Estadio do Dragao Stadium in Porto, Portugal.
Havertz rounded City’s Ederson to score the match-winning goal three minutes prior to halftime. Chelsea players pumped in delight and celebrated with the German goal scorer. Coach Thomas Tuchel was overwhelmed and punched the air in celebration. He later with joy on the pitch as Chelsea managed to keep its lead and secure a victory.
Manchester City was disappointed after the loss. Tears were seen in the eyes of the goalkeeper. City lost distraught after skipper Kevin De Bruyne was out due to an injury. Manchester City had finished first in the table and was looking forward to winning the cup for the third time.
Although Chelsea had finished 4th in the league, 19 points behind City, it successfully defeated Manchester City for the third time in the past six weeks. Chelsea had also defeated Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup earlier this month in Manchester.
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz got emotional after winning the match for Chelsea. In his post-match conference, he mentioned that he had waited for 15 years to win a UEFA Title and he really feels overwhelmed to be a major reason for the Club’s victory. Captain Cesar Azpilicueta also praised the efforts of the young German forward.
Chelsea enjoyed a remarkable season with a couple of title victories including the precious Champions League. Manchester City too finished at the top in Premier and Champions League, winning the former one. With football’s future shining bright with the comeback of the English Football Club’s, all eyes now will be on the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
