French Open 2021: Nadal, Djokovic advance into quarter-finals

Spanish Tennis Legend Rafael Nadal and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic advanced into the quarter-finals of the ongoing Rolland Garros French Open being held in Paris, France. The French open is in highlight as many great stars including World.No. 2 Naomi Osaka and Swiss star Roger Federer withdrew from the tournament.

Nadal reached the quarterfinals of the French Open for the fifteenth time. He defeated Italy’s Jannik Sinner with a straight-sets win. The 3rd Seed defeated the young Italian by 7-5, 6-3, and 6-0. Nadal stays in the race to win the 14th Roland Garros Title and his 21st Grand Slam title in his 16-year long career span.

Nadal has an enormous record at the French Open. Since his debut at the French Open in 2005, he has just lost two matches and won a record 104 matches. Monday’s victory extends his run of winning 35 consecutive sets at Paris. Nadal will now face a challenge from Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in the quarters.

Serbian Tennis Star Novak Djokovic survived the scare of Lorenzo Musetti as the latter quit in the last set. However, Djokovic had the edge over Musetti since the third set. Djokovic defeated Musetti and advanced into the quarterfinal of the French Open. Djokovic had won the French Open way back in 2016.

The match between Djokovic and Musetti begins with stiff resistance from Musetti. He defeated the Serbian by 6-7 and 6-7 in the first two sets. Djokovic stormed back into the match by defeating him by 6-1 and 6-0 in the third and fourth set respectively. Musetti suffered an injury in the last set and called a time-out before quitting in the last set where Djokovic was leading by 4-0.

Djokovic is in the race to win the French Open and he will be the first man in over fifty years to win all four grand slam titles twice. Djokovic will face Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinal.
