Maxwell started his cricketing career with the Victorian squad in 2009. Maxwell was the replacement for the injured player Andrew McDonald. Maxwell was also part of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament where he won the Player of the Tournament award and Australia won the maiden title.

Maxwell made his first-class cricket debut in 2010 for Victoria against the NSW. He was successful in giving an all-round performance for the same by scoring 38 runs, taking 2 wickets and 2 catches. He caught the national cricket board’s attention when he scored 51 runs in just 19 deliveries in Ryobi Cup game against team Tasmania. This was the fastest century in Australian domestic one-day cricket history.

Following the Ryobi Cup were the Shield games, where Glenn Maxwell was successful in scoring 63 runs and 103 runs respectively and taking 3 catches. He also won the man of the match award for the same. In the Emerging Players Tournament of 2011, Maxwell scored a total of 59 runs in just 23 balls against the Indian cricket team. He then smashed a total of 110 runs off 52 deliveries against the South African team in a losing cause.

After a successful domestic season, Maxwell was sent to England to play club cricket for South Wilts and Hampshire Second XI. The power striker showed tremendous form by scoring 115 runs from 31 balls against the MCC Young Cricketers team. He scored a total of 178 runs with an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 178 for Hampshire in the Twenty20 county competition.

Maxwell made his One Day debut for Australia against Afghanistan in a one-off ODI in UAE in 2012. He just scored 2 runs and 0-21 was the bowling figure from him. In his 2nd ODI against Pakistan, he scored 38 runs off 38 balls which helped Australia in securing a victory in the match.

He made his T20I debut in the same tour against Pakistan and scored 4 runs and secured 0-25 bowling figures. It was a slow start for the superstar but no one knew what this allrounder had in store for the Australian cricket team.

2016 was the turning year for his T20I career. During the Australia tour of Sri Lanka, Maxwell was asked to open the innings, the super striker went ahead and smashed his first hundred in the shortest format of the game. He scored a total of 145 runs in just 65 balls. With the help of his innings, Australia was successful in giving a target of 263 runs which is also the highest team score in T20I cricket.

Maxwell made his test debut in the 2012-13 Indian tour. He was not so impressed with the bat but took 4 wickets by giving 127 runs. He was picked for the Pakistan tour as well which was a failure for him. He just scored 37 runs in 4 innings. Due to this failure, he was not picked in the Australian test squad.

The 2021 IPL and WC have been amazing for Maxwell. He showed consistent performance in both tournaments.

The major career turning point in Maxwell’s life was the 19-ball half-century against Tasmania in the Ryobi One-Day Cup in 2011.

Maxwell started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils back in 2012. He was not the direct pick for Delhi but the replacement for his Australian teammate Travis Head. The phenomenal form of Maxwell made him a hot property at the IPL auction table. He was then picked by Mumbai Indians for 1 million USD. During his time with Mumbai Indians, he wasn’t given many opportunities to bat.

Later, he was picked by Kings XI Punjab for 6 crores in the auction. Maxwell showed tremendous form and played 2 fantastic innings of 95 runs against Chennai and Hyderabad respectively. The Maxwell-Miller duo helped Punjab to get into their first final ever.

In the 2020 Players auction, there was a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, which resulted in Maxwell being sold as the second most expensive player at the 2020 players’ auction.

In 2021, Maxwell was brought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore after another bidding war at the auction table, with the Chennai Super Kings.
