His father Himanshu Pandya runs a small car finance business which he later shut to shift to Baroda and facilitate his children with professional cricket techniques. His mother is a homemaker while his family was financially weak.

At a mere age of 5 years, Hardik’s father enrolled him and his elder brother Krunal Pandya at a cricket academy run by Kiran More. His family lived in a rented flat near Baroda. Hardik Pandya was not so bright in academics and he left his studies to focus on cricket. Ironically, he went on to play International cricket before his elder brother.

Hardik Pandya had a memorable period for his school team and club matches. Pandya played a crucial role in the school’s team victory in district tournaments and the club team’s victory in professional leagues. Pandya started his career in cricket as a Leg Spinner but didn’t gain enough momentum and started pace bowling through the insistence of his coach Kumar.

Following his explosive knock at the U-19 level, Pandya earned a call for the Baroda Cricket Team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and 2013-14. In his debut season for Baroda, the team won the T-20 trophy as Pandya played a vital role in the development. Pandya went on to improve his performance for the Baroda Cricket Team.

In the view of the 2014-15 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Pandya emerged as an important factor in Baroda’s campaign which led to his selection at the IPL. Pandya’s compelling performance at the IPL and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Pandya earned his maiden T-20 call for India on the Australian tour. Pandya justified his selection by picking two wickets in his debut match and scoring quickfire knocks against Sri Lanka in the following series. Pandya was on the verge of becoming a regular T-20 player.

Pandya got selected in the Indian T-20 team for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. He smashed a fine cameo of 31 runs against Bangladesh at the Asia Cup which helped India to register a competitive total. In the match against Pakistan, Pandya registered majestic figures of 3/8 which restricted Pakistan to a mere total of 83. 

At the ICC T-20 World Cup 2016, Pandya displayed a strong resilience as he helped India to storm into the Semi-Finals. Pandya claimed two wickets in the final over against Bangladesh in a do-or-die match. Pandya earlier scored a match-winning knock of 33 of just 14 balls to take India through. After a successful T-20 world cup, Pandya got the chance to make his ODI debut. He subsequently made his ODI debut against New Zealand at Dharmashala in October 2016. He was adjudged the Man of the Match in his debut match for his destructive all-around performance. His brilliant performance earned him a place in India’s Champions Trophy team.

Pandya went on to play brilliantly at the Champions Trophy. He scored a brilliant 43 ball 76 runs in the Final against Pakistan. He was also named in India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He played his 50th One-Day International against West Indies. Since then, he had represented the Indian team on quite a few occasions.

Pandya went on to score a fabulous century in the third test and set an international record of scoring the most runs in an over at Test (26).
