Harmanpreet Kaur Biography – With a blissful and ferocious approach towards batting, Harmanpreet has been regarded as the most relentless batter in the Indian women’s cricket team. Harmanpreet Kaur is a specialist limited-over batter and has destructed the clumpy bowling lineup of Aussies and English. Kaur has a long way to go in her career and will truly emerge as the most remarkable batter.

Harmanpreet Kaur represented the Indian national women’s team across all three formats of the game. A middle-order Right-Handed slog batter, Kaur is also a regular Right-Arm off-break bowler. Harmanpreet is the current captain of India’s T-20 team. She made her debut for India in the 50-over game against Pakistan on 7th March 2009.

Harmanpreet Kaur was born on 8th March 1989 at Moga town in Punjab. Her father Harmandar Singh Bhullar is a Volleyball and Basketball player whereas her mother Satwinder Kaur is a homemaker. Her brother Hemjeet is a post-graduate in English and works as an assistant professor. Her father was an aspiring cricketer and trained Harman in her initial days.

Harmanpreet inclined cricket after joining her Gian Jyoti School academy, 30 kilometers away from her house. She trained with men’s cricketers in the formative days of her career. In 2014, Harmanpreet moved to Mumbai for advanced training and worked in Indian Railways to earn a living.

Harmanpreet Kaur played for the Punjab Cricket team in the domestic circuit. She had a short-lived but impactful journey for Punjab. Kaur represented the Punjab team in the U-19 championship and scored valuable runs. Her performance at the domestic stage helped her to set the stage for her international debut.

The Big Bash League

Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian cricketer to be signed by an overseas T-20 franchise in June 2016 alongside her teammate Smriti Mandhana. Kaur was signed by defending champions Sydney Thunders ahead of the 2016 Big Bash League

For her consistent performance, Harmanpreet was retained by the franchise till the 2021 season. In the 2021 auctions, Harmanpreet Kaur was signed by the Melbourne Renegades franchise. Kaur will play for her new franchise in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League.

Harmanpreet Kaur ODI Career

Harmanpreet Kaur made her ODI debut for India against Pakistan at an ICC Women’s World Cup match in 2009 at the Oval. Making her debut for the Indian team, Kaur registered a clinical bowling performance by registering a figure of 1/10 in 4 overs. She also scored ten runs of seven balls coming to bat in the end.

In March 2013, Harmanpreet was named as the captain of India’s ODI team for the Bangladesh series. Harmanpreet scored a fabulous century in the series and finished with 195 runs at a massive average of 97.50 including a century and a half-century and claimed two wickets. She was later picked for the 2017 World Cup.

At the semifinal of the 2017 World Cup, Harmanpreet smashed the second-highest individual score of 171* of 115 balls by an Indian woman batter. Harmanpreet, unfortunately, failed to perform as India lost the final. She was placed in the top 10 of ICC Women’s ODI rankings. Harmanpreet continued to feature in the ODI team and played her 100th ODI against South Africa in 2021.

Harmanpreet Kaur had one of the most decorated T-20 International careers. She made her debut at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match against England at Taunton. Kaur’s brilliant six-hitting ability was witnessed at the T-20 International match against England in Mumbai where she scored a quickfire knock of 33 runs.

Harmanpreet Kaur was named as the Captain of the Indian Women’s team for the 2012 Women’s Asia Cup as regular captain Mithali Raj was injured. She made her captaincy debut against Pakistan as Indian won defended 81 runs to win the match. In January 2016, Harmanpreet scored 46 runs off 31 balls to record the highest run chase for India against Australia.

Harmanpreet was also a part of the Indian contingent for the 2016 T-20 World Cup where she scored 89 runs and picked seven wickets. In December 2017, Harmanpreet was named in the ICC Women’s T-20 team of the year. Harmanpreet Kaur was named as the captain of the Indian women’s team for the ICC T-20 World Cup 2018 in the West Indies.

Harmanpreet led India to a successful campaign at the T-20 World Cup as India emerged as the runners-up. Harmanpreet became the first Indian woman to score a century in T-20 International as she scored 103 runs off 51 balls against New Zealand. She was the highest run-scorer by scoring 189 runs in the tournament.

Harmanpreet Kaur made her Test debut against England at Wormsley Ground in 2014. She had a disappointing run as she scored 9 and a duck in the match. In the same year at a match against South Africa, Harmanpreet Kaur claimed 9 wickets at a match in Mysore as Indian won the match by an innings and 34 runs.

Harmanpreet has not been active in Test cricket. In her short-driven test career, she has played only three matches and scored 38 runs, and picked up nine wickets. In a breakthrough for Harmanpreet, the all-rounder was named as the vice-captain of India’s test team for the one-off matches against England and Australia.
