Harshal Patel Biography: Harshal Patel is an Indian Professional First-Class Cricketer who plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise at the Indian Premier League and is the Captain of the Haryana State Cricket Team in domestic format. Harshal Patel is a Right-Arm Medium Fast bowler who bowls clinically to dismiss every type of batsman in Cricket.

After a brilliant season of Vivo IPL 2021, Harshal Patel was selected as a Net Bowler in the Indian Team’s practice for the ICC T-20 World Cup 2021 at the United Arabs Emirates.

Harshal Patel was born on 23rd November 1990 at Sanand Town in Gujarat State. His father Vikram Patel is a civil aviation officer who works with Prime Flight Aviation whereas his mother operates a Dunkin Donuts food chain. Patel was brought up in his native Indian State of Gujarat where he started to play cricket at the very young age of eight. 


Harshal’s parents sought the shift to the United States of America where the young lad stayed for a while at Linden town and joined the Aggressive Cricket Club to play at the New Jersey Cricket League. He later returned to India with the help of his brother Tapan Patel who supported him to pursue professional cricket for India.

Harshal Patel had a fascinating start to his professional cricket career. After a consistent performance for Gujarat in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, Patel got selected for the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2008-09. Harshal Patel was in fantastic form as he managed to pick up 23 wickets in the tournament. His performance helped him to grab a spot in the Indian U-19 Team.

Harshal Patel was selected in the Indian squad for the ICC U-19 World Cup 2010 at New Zealand. In a packed young Indian side, Harshal Patel failed to find an opportunity to prove his caliber for the U-19 team. Patel was ignored by the Gujarat selectors for the domestic season of 2011 and then he decided to play for the Haryana Team.

Harshal Patel made his debut for the Haryana Cricket Team at the domestic Ranji Trophy season 2011-12. Patel immediately made an impact through his impressive performance as he picked up eight wickets against Karnataka in Quarter-Final and the subsequent eight wickets against defending champions Rajasthan in the semi-final.

Following his impactful performance at the Ranji Trophy season of 2011-12, Patel got a call from the Haryana Team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 Trophy 2011-12. He made his immediate debut against the Delhi Team where he failed to captivate the opportunity but again got a chance to play against the Bangalore team.

Through his magnificent bowling skills, Patel grabbed everyone’s attention as he picked up his first T-20 five-wicket haul against Bangalore at their home ground. In the next game against Rajasthan, Harshal Patel grabbed 8 wickets for just 34 runs. He was the first Haryana player to pick up 8 wickets in an innings since 1991.

Harshal Patel’s tremendous efforts helped him to succeed at the IPL Auctions of 2012. He is the current Captain of the Haryana Cricket Team in the domestic format.

Harshal Patel’s U-19 performance helped him to get picked by his first IPL franchise Mumbai Indians in 2010. Patel didn’t find an opportunity to represent the Indians as the side was packed by overseas bowlers. His marvelous 2011-12 domestic season grabbed the eyes of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise who picked him in the 2012 auction.

Harshal Patel failed to retain his spot in RCB’s playing XI who later released him. He was picked by the Delhi Daredevils franchise in the 2018 IPL auction. Patel didn’t impress the franchise who traded him with the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise ahead of the 2021 season of IPL. Patel finally set things straight at the ongoing season of IPL.

Playing his first match for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians, Harshal Patel claimed his first five-wicket haul in IPL which was also the first one by any bowler against Mumbai Indians. He subsequently picked up a hattrick against Mumbai in the same season, becoming only the third player at IPL to grab a hattrick.

By the end of IPL 2021, Patel ended with 32 wickets in his tally which is jointly the most wickets by any bowler in IPL alongside Dwayne Bravo. Patel is the purple-cap winner at the Vivo IPL 2021.
