Neeraj Chopra will bring back home first-ever track and field medal for India. After topping the qualification round, the country had high expectations of a medal from him. In his first attempt, he recorded a distance of 87.03m, and then in the second round, he recorded 87.58m which eventually got him the gold medal.
Star Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra became only the second Indian to win an individual gold medal in the Olympics after Abhinav Bindra’s gold in shooting.

The 23-year-old javelin thrower won the country its 7th medal. 7 medals in the Olympics are India’s best medal count ever after the 2012 London Olympics 6 medal count.
Indian Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal with a distance of 87.58m, followed by Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch (86.67m) winning a silver and Vitezslav Vesely (85.44m) a bronze in the event.
Chopra recorded a distance of 86.59m in the qualification round and ranked 1st in the ranking table on Wednesday.
Chopra’s 5th best throw of 87.58m ensured India a first gold medal at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Team India bagged a medal on the first day of the Tokyo Olympics when Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal at the weightlifting event and India also won a medal on the last day of Indian events as Neeraj Chopra’s gold in Javelin.

The whole country is sending their wishes and messages to Neeraj Chopra through social media.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi tweeted, “History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold.”
