Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final to claim their maiden IPL trophy. Since then, Rajasthan Royals have failed to win an IPL Trophy.

Shane Warne, Sohail Tanvir, and Yusuf Pathan were the key performers for Rajasthan Royals in their initial season victory. Rajasthan Royals made a clinical performance all along the season. The franchise has seized its name in the book of records by winning the first season.

The IPL in 2009 was shifted to South Africa in view of the Indian General Elections. The situation just turned out to be favorable for the Deccan Chargers as they managed to lift their first IPL title in the 2009 season. The final was played in Cape Town.

Deccan Chargers franchise was led by Australian Wicket Keeper Adam Gilchrist who played a crucial part to help his team win the triumph. Gilchrist & co. defeated Anil Kumble’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Rohit Sharma, and RP Singh were the key performers for the Chargers.

Chennai Super Kings won their first title at the IPL in 2010. Chennai Super Kings is owned by India Cements Chairperson N. Srinivasan and led by the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful teams at the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians in the final of 2010. MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Matthew Hayden played a crucial role in the victory for CSK.

Chennai Super Kings was the first team to win back-to-back titles at IPL and that was only possible under the leadership of Chennai’s only captain since its inception, i.e. MS Dhoni. Dhoni had a successful season in 2011 as he also played a final knock to help India lift the ICC World Cup of 2011.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final that was led by Virat Kohli. Michael Hussey, Murali Vijay, and Dwayne Bravo performed exceptionally to help CSK win their second IPL trophy.

Kolkata Knight Riders were the third franchise of IPL to lift the IPL Trophy. Kolkata Knight Riders are owned by business Jai Mehta and Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan. Gautam Gambhir was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in their golden days of IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final of 2012. Gautam Gambhir, Shakib Al Hasan, and Manish Pandey were the star performers for KKR.

2013: Mumbai Indians

The most successful IPL franchise to date, Mumbai Indians won their first IPL triumph in 2013. Owned by the Chairman of Reliance Industries Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Mumbai Indians is led by India’s Opening batsman Rohit Sharma.

Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings through a clinical performance in the finals of 2013. Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga were the outstanding performers for Mumbai in the 2013 season.

2014: Kolkata Knight Riders

The Knight Riders yet again outperformed every franchise at the IPL to lift their second title at the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders had one of the most experienced captains Gautam Gambhir who helped his team to get through for the second time.

In a thriller last ball final, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede. Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, and Piyush Chawla were the best contributors for KKR in 2014.

2015: Mumbai Indians

The Paltan of Mumbai Indians shined bright for the second time in the 2015 season. Rohit played a crucial knock at his favorite Eden Gardens Stadium. The excellent leadership by Sharma helped the Mumbai Indians to lift their second title easily.

Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final of 2015 for the second time. Rohit Sharma, Lasith Malinga, and Ambati Rayudu played magnificently to take Mumbai through.

2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad

Former Australian Captain David Warner guaranteed the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise their first-ever victory at the IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Sun TV network and it was established after the delimitation of Deccan Chargers in 2010.

Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final of 2016. RCB missed their title hunt for the second time. David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar portrayed fine performances in the season.

2017: Mumbai Indians

The odd years have been the best for Mumbai as they successfully lift the trophy in 2017 after winning it in 2013 and 2017. Mumbai Indians have always been dominating in front of the opposition and turned the opportunities into milestones.

Mumbai Indians defeated the Rising Pune Supergiants by 1 run in the final of 2017. Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Lasith Malinga had ousted the opposition in the majority of matches.

2018: Chennai Super Kings

Back in IPL after a two-year suspension, Chennai Super Kings proved their dominance by winning the triumph in 2018. Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings bagged the IPL for the third time. Chennai performed brilliantly in the entire season.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in an easy final match of 2018. Shane Watson scored a stellar final century which helped Chennai get through easily. Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, and Deepak Chahar were amongst the top performers for Chennai in the 2018 season.

2019: Mumbai Indians

As mentioned earlier, the Mumbai Indians just don’t let anyone get through in the odd years. The most successful franchise at IPL won its fourth title in 2019. The triumph in 2019 also made Mumbai Indians the team to grab the most number of trophies. Rohit Sharma took over MS Dhoni as the most successful captain in IPL.

In the mega final of 2019, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings by a mere one run, thanks to Lasith Malinga for his innovative and outstanding last over. Malinga defended eight runs in the final over. For Mumbai Indians, the top performers of the season were Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah.

2020: Mumbai Indians

Due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic, IPL was shifted to the United Arabs Emirates for the 2020 season.

With winning the triumph in 2020, Mumbai Indians became the second team to win two consecutive IPL trophies after Chennai Super Kings. The Ambani franchise picked up the trophy for a record fifth time. All credit goes to the excellent teamwork and brilliant leadership skills of Captain Rohit Sharma.

Mumbai Indians defeated the first-time finalists Delhi Capitals in an easy final victory of 2020. Mumbai outperformed Delhi in the finals where their bowlers did the job. The final was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Rahul Chahar performed exceptionally well In the 2020 season.


The IPL 2021 is currently under progress in the United Arabs Emirates. It will be exciting to see the winner as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals are at the first four places at the halfway mark.
