Jasprit Bumrah Biography – A pace-bowler with an unorthodox action, Jasprit Bumrah grabbed the eyeballs of the nation with his anomalous pace, sling-arm style, and peculiar release point that troubled every batsman who faced him. Bumrah carved the 22-yard with an uncanny ability to hit the blockhole and is now regarded as the quickest and fierce pacer on the Indian side.

Jasprit Bumrah dons the Indian jersey in all three formats of the game and represents the Gujarat Cricket Team in domestic cricket. He is also the most valuable part of the Mumbai Indians franchise at the IPL. Bumrah made his debut for the Indian team in the limited-overs format against Australia on 23rd January 2016.

Jasprit Bumrah was born on 6th December 1993 to a Punjabi family that settled in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat. Bumrah’s father Jasbir Singh Bumrah died when he was just five years old. A major role of his development was borne by his mother Daljit Bumrah who worked as a teacher in a school in Ahmedabad.

Jasprit Bumrah did his schooling in Ahmedabad at a school where his mother was a Principal. At the age of 14, Bumrah asserted his willingness to pursue a professional career in Cricket. No later, he joined a cricket academy in his surroundings and developed his bowling under his first coach. This was the start of something very big.

Jasprit Bumrah developed his unique bowling skills under his coach. Even though most people sought a change in his bowling action, his coach Kishore was reluctant on Bumrah’s unique action and conceived him to the ball with his natural action and aggression. This helped Bumrah to get noticed and his consistency prevailed to get picked in the Gujarat Team.

Bumrah represented his club and school team at the U-16 level tournaments. In his transitional developing phase, he delivered a spectacular performance that garnered the attention of national selectors.

It was time for Bumrah to pick up his rapid pace to ensure a ticket into the Indian National Cricket team.

Jasprit Bumrah’s unorthodox action and the exquisite pace were soon the talks of the town. As he achieved glory for his club, the elite stage selectors noticed him and called him to represent the U-19 Gujarat Team. Bumrah played the Cooch Behar and CK Nayudu Trophy for the Gujarat U-19 Cricket Team. Within no time, he made his way to the senior team in the following season.

Bumrah made his debut for the Gujarat Team at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and registered a clinical performance in the final against Punjab as Gujarat won the 2012 edition. He later made his T-20 debut against Maharashtra and picked up a late wicket to ensure Gujarat’s victory. Following his performance, Bumrah was selected in India U-23 Team.

Bumrah made his List-A debut against Pakistan at the ACC Emerging Teams Cup in Singapore. Bumrah’s marvelous performance alongside his current Indian counterparts KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav helped India to lift the cup. He later returned to play for his domestic team in the Ranji Trophy and finally made his debut.

Bumrah made his first-class debut against Vidharbha and picked up seven wickets to be adjudged as the Man of the Match. His scintillating performance in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season marked a new beginning in his career as this paved the way for his IPL debut. In his decorated domestic career, Bumrah has picked up 483 wickets in 276 matches.

Owing to his magnificent IPL and domestic performance, Bumrah got an Indian team call for the Australian tour in early January 2016. He finally made his debut in the 5th ODI as a replacement for injured Mohammed Shami. Bumrah led the Indian bowling attack and picked two wickets, including one of captain Steve Smith.

Bumrah’s brilliant pace along with line and length helped him to make his T-20 International debut in the 1st T-20. Bumrah picked up five wickets in the series as India swept the series. He was soon inducted into India’s team for the T20 World Cup 2016. He continued with his commanding performance at the West Indies and New Zealand tour in 2017.

Bumrah was also picked in India’s side in the Champions Trophy 2017 where he was criticized for his no-ball in the final against Pakistan as India was beaten upfront. From 2018, Bumrah pushed himself to become a frontline bowler in the Indian bowling attack alongside Mohammed Shami and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.

Bumrah achieved success as he was regularly inducted into the Indian team. He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2017 where his first Test wicket was skipper AB de Villiers. In a sloppy Indian performance in England, Bumrah regained India’s prestige by picking regular wickets. He broke many records in the Test series against West Indies. 

Bumrah continues to be an integral part of the Indian team as he was picked in the World Cup 2019, Test Championship Final 2021, and T20 World Cup 2021 where he impressed everyone with his performance.

Jasprit Bumrah was picked by the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians in 2013. He was the best addition to the bowling attack alongside Lasith Malinga and now Trent Boult. Owing to Bumrah’s stellar performance for Mumbai Indians, the franchise won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 where Bumrah played a crucial part in the victory.

Bumrah is believed to be one of the three players that Mumbai Indians might retain ahead of Mega IPL Auctions 2022, the other two being Captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
