Kananur Lokesh Rahul, popularly known as KL Rahul is an Indian International professional cricketer who represents the Karnataka State in Domestic cricket and leads the Punjab Kings franchise at IPL. Rahul is a top-order Right-Handed wicket-keeper batsman who bats exceptionally and has several records to his name.
KL Rahul made his debut for India against Australia at the Boxing Day Test in 2014. His ODI debut was against Zimbabwe in 2016 whereas his T-20 International debut came against Zimbabwe in the same series.

KL Rahul was born to KN Lokesh and Rajeshwari on 18th April 1992. His father is a professor of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka and his mother too practiced the same profession at Mangalore University. Rahul was brought up in Mangalore. Rahul started playing cricket at a very young age of 10 and soon represented Bangalore United and his Mangalore Club.

Early Days of KL Rahul
KL Rahul moved to Bangalore at an age of 18 to pursue a professional career in cricket. Under the guidance of his coach Samuel Jayaraj, Rahul’s game improved and he grabbed the selector’s eyes as the 2010 U-19 World Cup approached. Rahul was selected in the Indian U-19 Team for the 2010 World Cup. Rahul performed brilliantly at the World Cup.
Owing to his performance at the U-19 World Cup, Rahul grabbed a spot in the Karnataka Domestic Team. He was soon chosen to play for the team at the prestigious Ranji Trophy.
KL Rahul made his List-A debut for Karnataka at the Ranji Trophy Super 2010-11. Rahul displayed a poor performance as he scored only 105 runs in 3 matches. Despite his disappointing approach, Rahul got a second chance at the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season. Since then, it was no looking back for him as he scored 400 runs in 5 matches with an average of 50.
Rahul’s continued with his excellent form as he scored 1,033 runs in 10 matches. His scintillating performance grabbed the attention of IPL Talent Hunters and he was soon inducted into the cash-rich league. Rahul scored 337 runs against Uttar Pradesh and 188 against Tamil Nadu in the final of the 2013-14 season which helped Karnataka to win the title.
Rahul’s domestic career reached its peak in the Duleep Trophy where he got selected for the South Zone. He scored 185 runs in the final against Central Zone which eventually led to his debut for the Indian Team.
KL Rahul Test Career
KL Rahul made his debut at the Boxing Day Test against Australia as he made up for the injured Rohit Sharma. Rahul received his test cap from M.S Dhoni. He had a poor run in the first test as he scored only 7 runs. Despite his poor performance, Dhoni trusted the youngster and promoted him up the order to open. Rahul then scored his maiden international century at Sydney.
Since then, it was been no looking back for KL Rahul. He was picked up in the side for Sri Lankan, Bangladesh, and West Indies tour where he scored successive centuries to prove his caliber. His best Test form came against England where he scored 759 runs in the series. In the recent series at England, India created history by winning overseas and Rahul played a crucial part.
KL Rahul ODI Career
KL Rahul made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe and scored a century on the debut itself. He became the first Indian batsman to score one on the debut. Rahul had a good run in 2016 but went through a bad patch from 2017-2019. He made a pleasing comeback and was selected for the World Cup in 2019. He performed well at the World Cup and is regularly inducted into the Indian squad for his consistency since 2019.
KL Rahul T20 Career
Rahul made his T-20 International debut against Zimbabwe and he suffered a major jolt as he got out on the first ball of the match. He then made a serious comeback as he scored a ton against West Indies in the second match of the series. Rahul continues to be a regular player in the Indian T-20 side after his powerhouse century against England. Rahul is a part of the Indian contingent for the T-20 World Cup in UAE this month.
KL Rahul IPL Career
KL Rahul was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in 2013 but got picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping Rs. 1 crore in 2014. He had a disappointing run for Hyderabad and was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 as well. The local boy garnered tremendous support from the crowd and performed brilliantly for RCB.
RCB released KL Rahul and Chris Gayle ahead of major squad changes for the 2018 season. Rahul was then picked by the Kings XI Punjab franchise in a popular bid war for Rs. 11 Crore. Since then, he has been a part of the team and leading the franchise.
