Kuldeep Yadav Early Days
Kuldeep’s father Ram Singh Yadav introduced him to his first coach Kapil Pandey who brought a revolution in his life. Yadav initially wanted to become a fast bowler but his coach insisted and developed him into a Left-Arm Orthodox spinner. Yadav’s transitional phase began where he performed brilliantly with the spin.
Kuldeep Yadav represented his school and club team in the U-15 tournaments. Despite his outstanding efforts at the domestic league, Yadav was not included in Uttar Pradesh’s U-15 league. This was a dark phase in his life but his father helped and encouraged him to not give up on the sport and advance in his career.
Kuldeep Yadav Domestic Career
Kuldeep was selected to represent the Uttar Pradesh U-19 team at the Cooch Behar Trophy. Yadav troubled many batsmen with his unique deliveries which they failed to read. After emerging as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, Yadav was selected to represent the Indian team for the U-19 World Cup.
Kuldeep Yadav’s career took a pace after his stellar bowling at the World Cup. After a relentless performance against Pakistan in the first match, Kuldeep took a hat-trick against Scotland. He was recruited in Uttar Pradesh’s Ranji Team for the 2014-15 season but he still has played very few matches for his domestic team.
Kuldeep Yadav International Career
Following his magnificent U-19 performance, Kuldeep gained a spot in the Indian national team for the West Indies series. However, he did not feature in the limited-overs series and was called back for the red-ball home series against Australia in 2017. Kuldeep made his debut on 25th March 2017 where he picked up 4-wickets in the first innings.
After his significant series against Australia, Kuldeep was named in a 15-member squad list for the limited-overs series against West Indies. He failed to bowl a delivery in his debut as the match ended with no result. He bowled marvelously in the second match as he claimed three wickets to ensure his selection in the T-20 team.
Yadav recorded his first five-wicket haul in ODI and registered the most successful figure of 6/25 by any bowler against England. He went on to claim his first five-wicket haul in Tests against West Indies. He also claimed a fiver against England in the T-20 series which was followed by the ODI series. He is the only Indian bowler to pick a five-wicket haul across all three formats.
Yadav went on to impress the national selectors with his consistent performance. He took two hattricks in ODI’s and one in a T-20 match against Sri Lanka. On the verge of becoming a sensational left-arm wrist spinner, Yadav was named in India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He continues to be an integral part of the Indian team.

Ahead of the 2012 IPL Auction, the Mumbai Indians franchise showed their interest to pick the mysterious bowler. Yadav played for the Mumbai Indians franchise at the 2012 and 2013 editions of IPL. MI won the 2013 IPL but the role of Yadav was limited as he failed to make an impact. He was subsequently released from the side ahead of the 2014 auction.
At the 2014 IPL Auction, Kolkata Knight Riders picked up Kuldeep Yadav where he failed to impress the franchise with the limited opportunities he got. He was bought by the KKR franchise once again in 2017 for Rs. 5.8 crores. This time, Yadav was enhanced with many opportunities and he continues to be a part of the franchise.
