Mayank started practicing to play professional cricket at an age of 11. He represented the Bishops Cottage Boys School as an Opening batsman. Following his brilliant performance in club matches, Agarwal got selected for the Bengaluru District team and eventually the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s U-19 Team.
At the Cooch Behar U-19 Trophy of 2008-09, Mayank Agarwal scored 432 runs in 5 matches with an average of 54. This led to his selection in the Indian U-19 team where he scored a scintillating 160 runs knock against Australia to make it in the World Cup squad in New Zealand. Agarwal was the highest run-scorer for the tournament in the U-19 World Cup 2010.

Mayank Agarwal’s magnificent performance in U-19 World Cup helped him to grab a spot in India A side and made his List A debut in the following year. Though acknowledged as a limited-overs batsman, Agarwal made his Ranji Trophy debut for Karnataka in the 2013-14 season. The life-changing domestic season for Mayank Agarwal was the 2017-18 season.
In the Ranji Trophy season of 2017-18, Mayank Agarwal scored more than 1,160 runs in 9 matches at a massive average of 105. He was the highest individual run-scorer in that season. Agarwal proved his caliber in a match against Maharashtra at Pune where he scored a match-winning inning of 304* to register a comfortable victory for Karnataka.
Mayank Agarwal’s brilliant touch continued to flourish at the Vijay Hazare Trophy as he scored 723 runs in 6 matches. Agarwal was the highest run-scorer at the first-class season in 2017-18 where he amassed a whopping 2,141 runs, which is also the most runs scored by any batsman in domestic cricket. The BCCI awarded Agarwal with the Madhavrao Scindia Award for his excellency in the Ranji Trophy.

Following his phenomenal performance in the 2017-18 domestic season, Agarwal got justice and was picked in the Indian Test team for the West Indies tour. However, Prithvi Shaw was picked over him and he failed to feature against West Indies. Shaw was later injured in a warm-up game which turned the cards for Agarwal to make his international debut.
Mayank Agarwal made his Test debut at the famous boxing day test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Mayank didn’t disappoint skipper Virat Kohli as he scored 76 runs in his debut innings. Agarwal went on to score 195 runs in the three innings he played with a significant average of 65. He proved his dominance with the red ball and performed greatly.
Mayank Agarwal made his ODI debut against New Zealand on 5th February 2020. He however has a short-lived ODI career as he featured only in 5 ODI’s and scored 86 runs with an average of 17. Agarwal replaced the injured Vijay Shankar at the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019. But he did not find a place in the packed Indian lineup.

Mayank Agarwal was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise following his impressive U-19 World Cup knock. He made his IPL debut against Kochi Tuskers of Kerala, batting alongside legendary Chris Gayle. Agarwal proved his caliber as he smashed CSK’s Muralitharan for a six of the very first ball and scored a quick-fire fifty against the Mumbai Indians.
Mayank Agarwal had a rough patch as he sustained several injuries in the 2013-14 domestic season. He was released by the Bangalore franchise and picked by the Delhi Daredevils on a two-year contract. He had a productive season for the Delhi franchise in 2015 but his contract got terminated in 2016. In the 2016 IPL Auction, Mayank Agarwal was picked by the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise.
Agarwal failed to captivate the opportunity of performing for the Pune Supergiants under MS Dhoni. He was released before the 2018 auction and picked by the Kings XI Punjab franchise. Agarwal had a good time for Punjab and he continues to be an integral part of the franchise alongside Captain KL Rahul. He was the leading run-scorer for Punjab Kings in the 2020 season.
