Michelle Obama, the wife of the former U.S. President Barack Obama, has a lot of accomplishments to be proud of. She is a bestselling author, a former First Lady of the U.S. and, most recently, is now a Grammy winner as well.
She won the Grammy Award in the Best Spoken Word category for her audiobook “Becoming,” The book tells the extraordinary story of how a girl from the South Side of Chicago became a lawyer and, later on, the First Lady of the United States, according to Grammy.com.
Michelle Obama bested other nominees to the Best Spoken Word Album, which includes poetry, audiobooks, and storytelling, according to Daily Mail. Her rivals include Beastie Boy’s Michael Diamond and Adam Horovitz for “Beastie Boys Book,” director-performer John Waters for “Mr. Know-It-All,”; Eric Alexandrakis for “I.V. Catatonia: 20 Years As A Two-Time Cancer Survivor,” and Sekou Andrews for “Sekou Andrews & The String Theory.”
Vogue wrote that it shouldn’t be surprising for “Becoming,” Obama’s 2018 memoir to come out the winner in its nominated category. After all, it was the bestselling hardcover book in 2018 with over 2 million books sold in the U.S. and Canada. It even sold 725 thousand copies on its launch date.
Another former First Lady actually won a Grammy Award in the past. Hilary Clinton got her Grammy for the audiobook version of her 1997 book “It Takes A Village.”
Michelle’s recent win raked in a total of three Grammy’s for the same category. Former President Barack Obama won twice for the audiobook versions of “Dreams From My Father” in 2006 and “The Audacity Of Hope” in 2008.
In other categories, Billie Eilish came out as the biggest winner in the 2020 Grammys. She won Best New Artist, Song Of The Year for “Bad Guy,” Album Of The Year for “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,” Record Of The Year for “Bad Guy,” and Best Pop Vocal Album for “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?.”
Aside from Eilish, another music artist, Lizzo, also managed to win more than one award. Lizzo won Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts,” and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome.” The Chemical Brothers likewise won two awards, one for Best Dance/Electronic Album for “No Geography,” and another for Best Dance Recording for “Got To Keep On.”
