Prithvi Shaw Biography – Prithvi Shaw is an Indian professional cricketer who plays for the Mumbai team in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals at the IPL. Shaw is a Right-Handed Opening batsman who has proved his caliber at a very young age. Prithvi Shaw was the Captain of the India U-19 Team which won the World Cup in the year 2018.
Prithvi Shaw made his debut against West Indies at the bilateral Test series on 4th October 2018. He eventually made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2020 and his T-20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2021.

Prithvi Shaw was born on 9th November 1999 in Gaya district in Bihar. His father Pankaj Gupta ran a small cloth store whereas his mother died when he was just 4. Shaw’s father shifted to Mumbai in a hunt for a better business opportunity. Prithvi Shaw developed a keen interest in cricket at the young age of 10.
Shaw started to pursue professional cricket and played for the Middle Income Group (MIG) Club in Bandra. Living in Virar on the outskirts of Mumbai, Shaw used to daily travel to 60 km to reach Bandra by 8:00 am.

Prithvi Shaw Early Days
Prithvi Shaw’s early phase in the game was quite impressive. He was spotted by Mumbai bowler Nilesh Kulkarni who offered him an annual stipend of Rs. 3 Lakhs. The same year, a corporator of the BMC engraved his talent and offered him a flat at Santacruz that reduced his travel time. At a match against JW Cricket Academy, Shaw scored 73 runs which grabbed the attention of English County Player Julian Wood.
Wood offered him to play in England. Shaw accepted the offer in 2012 and shifted to England. Shaw represented the Cheshire team and amassed 1446 runs in the 2012 county season. In May 2013, Shaw played for Gloucestershire. By the time, Shaw returned to India and led his school Rizvi Springfields to two consecutive Harris Shield Titles in 2012 and 2013.
Towards the end of 2013, Shaw scored an innings of 546 runs at a Harris Shield match which took him into the headlines.

Prithvi Shaw was always on the radar of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Shaw got a place in Mumbai’s Ranji Team in the 2016-17 season. He got into the XI directly at the semi-finals against Tamil Nadu. In a breakthrough for the youngest Ranji player, Shaw scored a brilliant 120 of 175 balls which powered the Mumbai team into the Finals against Gujarat.
At the Finals, Shaw scored 71 runs in the first innings and 44 in the second. His crucial knock was overpowered by Parthiv Patel’s scintillating 90 runs which eventually resulted in Gujarat winning their first title. Shaw went on to impress the selectors with his brilliant centuries at Ranji Trophy as he finished the highest run-scorer for Mumbai with 546 runs in the 2017-18 season.
In September 2017, Shaw made his Duleep Trophy debut for India Red and scored a marvelous century against India Blue at the Finals. Shaw followed Tendulkar’s footsteps of scoring centuries at Ranji and Duleep Trophy debut.

Following his versatile domestic performance, Shaw was chosen to lead the Indian contingent at the ICC U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka. Shaw led a talented team that comprised of popular youngsters including Shubhman Gill, Riyan Parag, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and many more. Rahul Dravid was the coach of the young Indian team.
India went on to win the World Cup under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw. Shaw performed mesmerizingly as he scored 261 runs in 5 innings with an average of 65.25.

Prithvi Shaw earned a maiden India call for the overseas Test series against India. He failed to make it into the XI following an experienced England bowling attack. The failure of the Indian Openers turned the cards for Prithvi Shaw as he made his debut against West Indies. Shaw scored a magnificent century on his debut and impressed the cricketing fraternity.
Prithvi Shaw was later called for the Australian tour but he suffered a major blow at a tour match which ruled him out of the historic series. His poor run in the 2021 Australian series showed him the exit through the Test team.

Prithvi Shaw was picked by the Delhi Daredevils franchise for a whopping amount of Rs. 1.2 Crore. Shaw opened with Gautam Gambhir and scored a good run in the initial phase. He was retained by the Delhi Capitals franchise which saw him open with the regular Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. The partnership with Dhawan prevailed and Shaw scored tremendously.
Shaw went on to captivate his performance in the young Delhi Capitals team under Shreyash Iyer. Shaw performed brilliantly in the 2020 season as he scored 598 runs in 25 matches. He is still an integral part of the Delhi Capitals team which is into the Playoffs at the Vivo IPL 2021.

Prithvi Shaw was a part of the Indian team for the ICC World Cup 2019 but was ruled out due to a hip injury. He was later called for the New Zealand series where he performed well.
