Rishabh Pant plays for the Indian National Cricket team across all three formats of the game and represents Delhi Cricket Team and Delhi Capitals franchise at the Indian Premier League. Rishabh Pant was born on 4th October 1997 at Roorkee district in Uttarakhand state. Rishabh’s father Rajendra Pant was a local businessman whereas his mother Saroj Pant is a homemaker. Rishabh’s family moved to Delhi when he was 12 years old. Unfortunately, Rishabh’s father died of a cardiac arrest in 2017 following which he went into a major setback.
Rishabh’s native place had a lack of infrastructure for cricket and he used to travel with his mother to Delhi on weekends for cricket coaching. With no means of Shelter in Delhi, they used to stay at a Gurudwara and head back to Roorkee on Monday. Every success story has its struggle and Rishabh had to go through a lot to achieve his milestone in Cricket.

Rishabh Pant Early Days
Rishabh Pant has been under continuous monitoring and development under his first coach Tarak Sinha. Tarak advised him to play for Rajasthan in U-13 and U-15 level and he moved to Pilani town. However, he was treated as an outsider and he soon returned to Delhi and represented his school and club team in the domestic circuit.
Rishabh went on to perform brilliantly for his club team which eventually led to his selection in the Delhi U-19 Team. In a match against Assam, the young lad scored a brilliant 150 and earned a call in the Indian National Team for U-19 World Cup 2016. His heroics of a couple of centuries took India to the Final but unfortunately, the team lost.
Rishabh Pant Domestic Career
Following his massive scores at the U-19 World Cup, Rishabh made his debut for Delhi’s senior team. Pant made his first-class debut at the Ranji Trophy season 2015-16. He went on to make his List-A debut in the same year at the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pant had a good season for Delhi which ensured his spot in the 2016-17 season.
In the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season, Rishabh scored a magnificent triple-century against Maharashtra to become the third-youngest Indian to score a triple-century in first-class cricket. In another match against Jharkhand, Pant went on to score the fastest century in a Ranji Trophy match which came of just 48 deliveries.
Pant’s scintillating performance landed him to achieve a remarkable feat as he was named the Captain of Delhi’s team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17. Pant led Delhi to the elite league but was later eliminated. At a zonal T-20 league fixture against Himachal Pradesh in 2018, Pant scored the fastest T20 century in a List-A Indian match of only 32 balls.
Rishabh Pant International Career
Pant’s marvelous domestic season and U-19 heroics had already grabbed the attention of national selectors who were considering his debut. Rishabh was named in India’s squad for a three-match T-20 International series against England. Pant made his debut in the first T-20 itself and was the youngest Indian to make a T-20 international debut at 19 years of age.
Pant was chosen in India’s limited-overs series against West Indies and the T-20 Nidahas Trophy despite his below-average performance. In a breakthrough for Pant, he was selected in India’s Test squad for the England series where he made his debut and became the youngest Indian wicket-keeper batsman to score a century in England.
His performance in England had set the stage for his ODI debut against West Indies in 2018. He continued to perform well for the Indian side against Australia and Sri Lanka. However, his string of low scores bought his rough patch in 2019-20 where KL Rahul wore the gloves and booked a regular spot in the Indian team.
Pant returned to the Indian side with his extraordinary batting performance on the tour to Australia. His 89-run knock at the final test to register a historic win for India is still hailed by every Indian. Pant also impressed everyone with his steady gameplay at the England tour where India won a historic test series. He is currently a part of the T-20 team for the World Cup.
Rishabh Pant IPL Career
At the 2016 IPL Auction, Delhi Daredevils displayed confidence over Rishabh Pant and picked the young wicket-keeper batsman for a whopping Rs. 1.9 crore. The same day, he scored a century for the Indian U-19 team to guide the contingent into the semifinals. In his third game for Delhi, Rishabh played a crucial knock of 69 runs against Gujarat Lions.
Pant scored a spectacular inning of 128 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 edition. After the regular Captain Shreyash Iyer was ruled out of the IPL to an injury in 2021, the franchise named Rishabh Pant as the replacement. Pant led the Delhi Capitals franchise to the Qualifiers at the 2021 edition of IPL.
Rishabh is one of the three players that might be retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega IPL auction 2022.
