Rome Masters 2021: Djokovic defeats Fritz; loses his Temperament!

Novak Djokovic beats Taylor Fritz at the second round of the Rome Masters. Djokovic overpowered Frietz by winning the match in two games by the score of 6-3 and 7-5 before heavy rains interrupted the match. Fritz stayed on the course and displayed a great showdown to compete with the World No. 1. Djokovic yet again scored a confidence-boosting win.

With a convincing victory for Djokovic, the talk of the town however was the World No. 1 losing his temperament for the first time on the court. After a break in the second round on 5-4, Djokovic wasn’t able to serve again as rain stopped the play.

The rain conditions got worsened with heavy rains lashing out in the game and Djokovic’s temper boiled over. Djokovic was heard shouting at the umpire, “how much more do you want to play?” Djokovic then added, “ I asked you three times and you are not checking anything!” The umpire did not react to Djokovic’s demand and hence he lost his cool.

The play was then suspended with the players coming out on the court to play after three hours as weather cleared around the Foro Italico. After the rain cleared, Fritz fought back but lost the tie-breaker, giving Djokovic his second win of the season. In the post match press conference, Djokovic admitted that it wasn’t easy after the rain interruptions.”

Djokovic also emphasized about his temperament in the game. He said that it was difficult to cope with the worsening conditions and in the end of the day the one who overcomes these challenges boosts his confidence. Djokovic further assured that he will come back stronger and harder in the future.

Djokovic is set to face Norrie in the next round.
