Sanju Samson Biography – Sanju Samson is a professional Indian cricketer who plays for the Kerala Cricket Team in domestic format and leads the Rajasthan Royals franchise at the Indian Premier League. Samson is a Right-Handed top-order batsman and wicket-keeper who is the latest sensation of Indian Cricket. Samson is one of the youngest skippers at IPL.

Sanju Samson made his debut for the Indian National Cricket Team against Zimbabwe in 2015. However, his poor run for the national side has failed him to be a regular player in the team.

Sanju Samson was born on 11th November 1994 at Trivandrum city in Kerala. His father’s name is Samson Viswanath and his mother’s name is Lily Viswanath. Samson’s father was a Police Constable in Delhi and so the young lad did his primary schooling in Delhi and then moved to Trivandrum for High School.


Sanju started to practice professional cricket at the very young age of 10. His brother is a keen follower of the sport and he was a professional too. Samson’s father is also fond of sports.

Sanju Samson began with professional coaching at the very young age of 13. Samson’s prolific performance at a young age grabbed him a spot in Kerala’s U-13 team. He led the team and scored a ton in his debut match. Samson was then selected to represent South Zone where he scored four centuries in the five matches he played.

Samson also led Kerala’s U-16 and U-19 Teams. He scored a century against Goa at the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Following his impressive performance, Samson was selected for the Asia U-19 Cup. However, he failed to deliver at a crucial moment but later at the ACC Cup, Samson scored a century in the final against Pakistan to lift the trophy for India.

Sanju Samson was selected to represent the Kerala Team in Ranji Trophy at a very young age of 15. Samson made his debut at 17 against Vidarbha. This was the start of something very big. The 2013-14 season of the Ranji Trophy was the game-changer for Samson as he was the leading run-scorer for Kerala. Samson scored 530 runs in 6 matches with an average of over 50.

Samson also played for Kerala in limited-overs domestic cricket. He smashed a record-breaking double century against Goa at the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019. Samson registered the record of scoring the highest individual runs by any batsman in List-A cricket. His partnership with Sachin Baby is accredited as the highest 3rd wicket partnership in domestic cricket.

Sanju Samson was picked by Rajasthan Royals when he was 17. Samson was the youngest player to make an IPL debut on 13th April 2011 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Samson failed to impress the Rajasthan camp and was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012. He was not featured by the KKR camp in the 2012 season and was again picked by Rajasthan Royals in 2013.

The 2013 season with Rajasthan Royals was the turning point of Sanju Samson’s life. Samson played his second match for Royals against Bangalore where he scored a match-winning inning of 63 runs. Samson became the youngest player to score an IPL fifty at an age of 18. He received the Man of the Match award for his scintillating performance.

In a poor run for Samson in 2015, he managed to score only a single fifty in 15 matches. Samson was released by Rajasthan Royals and picked by Delhi Daredevils in 2016 at a whopping price of Rs. 4.2 Crore. He scored his maiden IPL century against Pune in 2017. Samson was picked back by Rajasthan Royals for 8 crores in 2018. 

Since then, Sanju Samson has performed brilliantly and consistently for the Royals and he was announced as the Captain of the franchise from the 2021 season of IPL.

Sanju Samson made his debut for the Indian National Cricket Team against Zimbabwe in 2015. Samson has been inconsistent while performing for the national team. In the 10 T-20 Internationals where Samson featured, he managed to score only 117 runs at an average of 11.7. He failed to score an above 30 score for India.

Sanju Samson made his debut for India in One-Day Internationals at a packed squad tour in Sri Lanka. The Indian team featured 10 batsmen at the Sri Lankan tour. Samson got the chance of featuring in one of the three ODI’s against Sri Lanka. Samson scored 46 runs and kept the stumps for a brilliant stumping off Yuzvendra Chahal.
