Shardul Thakur Biography – Shardul Thakur is an Indian professional cricketer who plays for the national team across all three formats. He represents the Mumbai Cricket team in domestic format and the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the Indian Premier League. Thakur is predominantly a Bowling All-Rounder who bowls Right-Arm Medium Fast. Shardul is also a Right-Handed middle-order batsman.
Shardul Thakur made his debut for the Indian National Cricket Team on 31st August 2007 against Sri Lanka at a bilateral ODI series. He subsequently made his Test and T-20 debut in the following year.

Shardul Thakur was born on 16th October 1991 at Palghar district in Maharashtra, which is just 100 kilometers from Mumbai. His father Narendra Thakur is a businessman whereas his mother Hansa Thakur is a homemaker. Thakur did his initial schooling in Palghar but later shifted to Borivali suburban in Mumbai to pursue further studies.
Shardul Thakur had a keen interest in cricket at the very young age of 12. His father supported him in pursuing his ambition and determination for the sport and sent him to Mumbai for professional coaching.

Shardul Thakur was not very fanatic about his curriculum and his passion drove him to the most classical sport in India. He started to attain professional coaching and represented his school team at U-14 and U-16 levels. Shardul achieved a breakthrough in the initial phase of his career as his performance was the highlight of his school team.
At a Harris Shield U-16 match, he hit six sixes to a bowler to become only the third batsman to achieve the incredible feat. Shardul Thakur had a struggling youth phase as he had to travel over 100 kilometers every day for his coaching. Thakur used to wake up at 3:30 am and catch a 5:00 am train to reach his Mumbai coaching center by 7:30 am.
Shardul Thakur played for the Mumbai U-19 team in first-class cricket and he was unfortunately dropped from the team due to his fitness. Thakur struggled and finally made it to the Mumbai Cricket Team in 2012. He made his debut again Rajasthan at Jaipur in November. Thakur managed to register a filthy figure of just 1/82 in his debut match.
Shardul weighed 83 kg and his fitness was a big issue considering his height and stamina. Shardul went through a clinical transformation as he shed 13 kgs to make a comeback for the Mumbai team in the 2013-14 season of the Ranji Trophy. Thakur was fit and quick to perform marvelously and picked up 27 wickets in 6 matches with an average of 26, including a 5-wicket haul.
Thakur scalped his game and registered another significant performance for the Mumbai team as he claimed 48 wickets in 10 matches at the 2014 season of Ranji Trophy. He was the joint highest wicket-taker along with Vinay Kumar. Thakur had another successful campaign at the 2015-16 domestic season for Mumbai.
In the Ranji Trophy 2016, Shardul picked up 41 wickets with an average of 25 as Mumbai defeated Saurashtra to lift their 41st title. Thakur’s impressive performance in two consecutive domestic seasons guaranteed his maiden call for the national team.
Shardul Thakur made his international debut for India against Sri Lanka in 2017. He managed to register a figure of 1/26 in his 7 overs and has made international appearances in the ODI team for a few occasions aftermath. Shardul was prerogative for his Test debut as he failed to get into the XI on a couple of occasions since 2016.
Thakur finally got an opportunity to feature against West Indies in late 2017. Shardul did not analyze the prevailing situation as he failed to earn a mark in Tests. He suffered a groin injury after bowling only 10 balls. Thakur was out for the entire 2018 season and returned in 2019. After a good IPL season in 2020, Thakur got a call for the Australia series.
Shardul Thakur was India’s key performer in the Australian series. He put in tremendous efforts at the fourth and fifth tests which helped India to bounce back in the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Thakur was also an integral part of the ODI series and the T-20 series which India sealed quite comfortably.
Shardul Thakur made his T-20 International debut against South Africa in 2017. He has been a consistent part of the T-20 team. Shardul replaced Axar Patel in India’s Squad for the ICC T-20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.
Shardul Thakur was picked by the Kings XI Punjab franchise at the 2014 IPL Auction. Shardul made his debut against Delhi Daredevils but was expensive in his maiden match as he registered a figure of 1/38. Thakur failed to captivate the opportunity to perform for the Punjab franchise and was picked by the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise in 2016.
Under the able leadership of captain MS Dhoni, Thakur performed brilliantly and was picked by Chennai Super Kings in 2018. Thakur created a synergy with Deepak Chahar in the bowling department. Thakur helped Chennai Super Kings to lift their fourth title by performing stupendously in the Final.
