Shikhar Dhawan to lead the Young Indian Players in the Upcoming India Tour of Sri Lanka 


On Wednesday, BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Shikhar Dhawan has been named the captain for the limited-over series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the vice-captain for the same. 

In absence of the main squad, many young domestic players got their maiden call-up for team India. The main Indian squad is in England preparing for the World Test Championship Final, which will be followed by a five-test match series against England in August. 

Indian Squad for Sri Lanka Tour – 

Shikhar Dhawan (C), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (VC), Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Rana, Ishan Kishan (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, K Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya. 


Net Bowlers- Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Sai Kishore, Simarjeet Singh.

Devdutt Padikkal, the Karnataka opener has impressed everyone by his outstanding performance in both domestic cricket and IPL. Maharashtra opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad showed some extraordinary skills in the suspended IPL. Chetan Sakariya has also got himself the golden ticket to play for team India. Sakariya impressed everyone with his bowling this year in the IPL. Krishnappa Gowtham, a Karnataka spinner has also been picked up. 

Players like – Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, who were picked for England limited over series have also retained their position in the team. Nitish Rana and Manish Pandey have also been selected for the Sri Lanka tour. 

Rahul Dravid, former Indian captain, has been appointed as the coach for the young Indian squad. Dravid said, “If you come on a tour with me, you won’t be leaving here without playing a game.” The limited-over series between India and Sri Lanka will start this July.
