The upcoming second test match between Sri Lanka and England is established to happen from tomorrow January 22, 2021, to January 26, 2021. The previous match was an easy win for England. Both the teams have their motive to win the series. The previous match was won by England by seven wickets. The reviews for the teams would be as follows.
ENG Team Review: ENG proved themselves to be a worthy winner in the previous test matches. They stumbled in the start where they lost both their openers Jak Crawley and Dom Sibley early. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow lifted the match with a brilliant attack. Even though Jonny Bairstow could not make much of the batting, Joe Root went ahead and showed a brilliant partnership with debutant Daniel Lawrence who looked gold for his 73 runs at the crease. Joe Root incredibly hit 18 fours and one six while batting at a strike rate of over 70. ENG has now won both their last two test matches at Galle which is commendable.
ENG Squad to be Watched: Zak Crawley, Dominic Sibley, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root (c), Daniel Lawrence, Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Dominic Bess, Jack Leach
SL Team Review: The performance of the SL team was comparatively poor in the test matches. They won the toss and chose to bat first but looked like they threw the initiative away. Lahiru Thirimanne and Kusal Perera did a good job getting stuck in their second innings. SL did try to make sure the 74-run chase for them in the last innings was not a walk in the park for ENG by picking three wickets for just 14. However, it was a slippery slope from there as ENG easily took it up and won the match.
SL Squad to be Watched: Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Perera, Oshada Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal (c), Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dilruwan Perera, Lasith Embuldeniya, Asitha Fernando
Team Prediction: The high chances of winning the game are for ENG over SL. ENG coach Chris Silverwood said that winning the series by 2-0 would do them a world of good for their confidence as their upcoming matches are with India who has recently made a historic win in Brisbane, which snapped Australia’s 32-year unbeaten streak at the Gabba and clinched the series 2-1. Looking at ENG team performance and formation, they look stronger than SL. It might not be easy as SL is preparing and hoping to bounce back under stand-in captain Dinesh Chandimal. SL does have the capability to draw the series which lacked in the first test match. SL spinners looked good but batsmen were on a suicidal mission. Even after all this, the way ENG dominated and killed the game in the first two days and scored heavily enough in the first innings, it would be no surprise if they win the series. They are taking this chance to win as a preparation and confidence booster for their upcoming matches.
