Her father was a chemical distributor who took care of her cricketing activities whereas her mother looked after her clothing and diet. Her brother Shravan bowled her in the nets. Smriti Mandhana Biography – Smriti kicked off her preparations in cricket under the guidance of her first coach who was none other than her father. She began toiling hard from the age of eight. She started to play club cricket in the women’s team from a very young age of nine.

Smriti got selected in Maharashtra’s U-15 team at the tender age of nine due to her significant performance on a club stage. At the age of eleven, Smriti got a place in Maharashtra’s U-19 team that truly bought a changing point in her cricketing career.

Smriti Mandhana played for Maharashtra’s U-19 team for a couple of years until she was dropped in 2009. She returned with a powerful stroke play in 2011. She made a couple of consistent knocks for the U-19 team before getting selected for the West Zone team. Madhana was named the Captain of Maharashtra’s team for the 2013 domestic season.

Smriti’s breakthrough in her career came in October 2013. In a U-19 West Zone match against Gujarat at Vadodara, Smriti became the first Indian woman to achieve a double-hundred score in a One-Day game. She scored an unbeaten knock of 224 runs of 150 balls that glimmered the eyes of National selectors towards the new batting sensation.

Smriti got selected in India’s Red team for NKV Salve Challengers Trophy 2016. Mandhana scored three consecutive half-centuries to take her team through. In the final against India Blue, Smriti scored 62 runs off 82 balls to emerge as the key performer for the India Red team. She was the highest run-scorer in the tournament with an aggregate of 192 runs.

The Big Bash League

Smriti Mandhana was signed by Brisbane Heats on a one-year contract at the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia in 2016. Along with Harmanpreet Kaur, she became the first Indian cricketer to be picked at the Big Bash League. Following a disappointing run, Mandhana was ruled out of the rest of the tournament and released by the franchise.

In the 2018 season of Women’s Big Bash League, Smriti was picked by the Hobart Hurricane franchise. Smriti had a good time as she also played for Western Storms at Kia Super League in the same year. She was released by Hobart Hurricanes ahead of 2021 auctions and picked by the Sydney Thunders for the upcoming season.

Following her fierce stint at the domestic season, Smriti Mandhana made her international debut in T-20 and ODI against Bangladesh in April 2013. After a successful series, Mandhana was picked in India’s Test team for the England tour. Her test debut helped India to win the first test at Wormsley Park as she scored a half-century while chasing.

Smrity continued to impress the Indian team with her performance in England. Smriti made it into the ODI squad for the Australian tour. In 2019, she scored the fastest T-20 fifty for Indian against New Zealand of 24 balls.

Smriti was named in India’s squad for the 2017 World Cup in England. She was back after a brief injury and scored 90 against England and 106 against West Indies to take India into the Finals. India lost to England in the final by nine runs. Smriti was also part of the Indian Women’s team for the T-20 World Cup in Australia 2020 where India finished as runners-up.

Smriti also represented India at a one-off test in England and Australia. She scored centuries in both matches and ended up the first Indian cricketer to achieve the feat in a single season.
