After Mirabai Chanu’s iconic silver medal in the 49kg weightlifting, the spirits of all Indian athletes, as well as Indian fans, were lifted up. It was the first time in history that India had won a medal on the very 1st day at the Olympics. India further looks to improve their position on the Olympics medal tally.
However, the start of day 2 at the Olympics was not much impressive for India as both Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal failed to qualify for the 10m air pistol event. Manu Bhaker finished on the 12th spot whereas Yashaswini Deswal finished at the 13th spot at the qualification round.
In the next event of Rowing, the Indian rowing team consisting of Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh made it into the semi-finals round.
We had a great start on the badminton court as P.V. Sindhu won her opening match against the 58th ranked Polikarpora. Sindhu will be playing against Hong Kong’s world number 34 Cheung Ngan Yi on the group stage.
After the match, Sindhu said, “Even though it was an easy first match I didn’t take it in an easy way. It wasn’t like I wasn’t prepared. It was quite an easy match but I made sure that we had some rallies and I got used to the court.”
Sania Mirza and Olympic debutant Ankita Raina were knocked out of the Tokyo Olympics 2021 despite dominating the large part of the opening women’s doubles event against Ukrarianin twin sisters Nadiia and Liudmyla Kichenok.
In the upcoming matches, MC Mary Kom and Indian Hockey team will be in action. MC Mary Kom vs Miguelina Hernandez – 1:30 PM IST. Indian Hockey Team vs Australian Hockey Team at 3 PM IST.
