India’s Lovlina Borgohain won her Round of 16 matches and advanced to the quarterfinals and is a step away from winning a medal for India. She will be facing Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals on Friday, July 30th.
On the other hand, the Indian hockey men’s team defeated Spain 3-0. Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary failed to qualify for the medal rounds in the 10m Pistol Mixed event. Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj also crash out of the quarterfinals race.
Silver medalist Mirabai Chanu returned to India and was warmly welcomed at the Delhi airport. She thanked everyone for the warm welcome.
“I am very happy to win the first medal for India at these Games. I don’t just belong to Manipur, I belong to the whole country,” Chanu said in her interview after the medal event at Tokyo 2020.
Mirabai Chanu also met with ex-sports minister Kiren Rijiju and Anurag Thakur after returning to India.
