TOKYO OLYMPICS DAY 6 UPDATES: Day 6 of the Sumer Olympic Games at Tokyo, 2020 was a roller coaster ride for the Indian contingent. The top contenders survived whereas the probable medal winners were blown out. In a mixed day for India, the girl power shined and kept the country’s hopes alive for yet another medal for India after a silver from Meerabai Chanu.

BADMINTON

  • PV Sindhu beats Ngan Yi Cheung to qualify for Pre-Quarters

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu defeated Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung by 21-9 and 21-15 to finish first in Group J and qualify for the Pre-Quarterfinals.

  • Sai Praneeth crashes out after losing to M. Caljouw

Sai Praneeth, the only hope for India in Badminton Men’s Single lost to Netherlands Caljouw and was out of the Olympics.

ARCHERY

  • Deepika Kumari qualifies for Quarterfinals 

World No. 1 Archer Deepika Kumari defeated USA’s Jennifer Mucino- Fernandez in Women’s Individual Archery Event- Pre-quarterfinal by 6-4 to advance in the quarterfinals and keep the medal hope alive.

  • Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav crashed out

Indian Archer’s Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav were crashed out of the Men’s Individual Archery Event in the 1/16 eliminations round.

BOXING

  • Pooja Rani defeats Ichrak Chaib to storm into the quarterfinals 

Indian female Boxer in the Women’s Middleweight category (69-75 kg) registered a win against Ichrak Chaib of Algeria to book a place in the quarterfinals and keep a medal hope alive.

ROWING

  • Arvind Singh and Arjun Lal qualify for Final B (non-medal)

Indian duo Arvind Singh and Arjun Lal qualified for a non-medal final in Men’s Doubles Rowing event.

HOCKEY

  • India loses to Great Britain by 4-1

India yet again failed to register a win at the Tokyo Olympics in the Women’s Field Hockey Event. India stands 5th in Group A with three straight losses and very low chances of qualification.
