Tom Latham to lead the squad as Kane Williamson misses out the Edgbaston test against England

New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson will miss the 2nd test against England at Edgbaston, confirmed NZC on Wednesday. Williamson had to withdraw his name from the 2nd test due to an ‘irritated’ left elbow. He has been facing this injury issue since March and had to miss out on matches in order to manage the injury.

“It’s not an easy decision for Kane to have to miss a test, but we think it’s the right one”, New Zealand coach Gary Stead stated. This decision has been taken, keeping in mind the World Test Championship final from 18th June, Stead added.

Tom Latham will lead the New Zealand team in Williamson’s absence. Will Young will join the squad and bat at number 3. Trent Boult will also join the squad after missing the first test at the Lord’s. New Zealand allrounder, Mitchell Santner will also miss the second test due to injury concerns.

Joe root also expressed his thoughts on Williamson missing out on the test. Root has said that it is a loss for the New Zealand side and England will not take their opponents and also, the World Test Championship finalists – lightly.

England’s Ollie Robinson has also been ruled out of the second test. England has many experienced names to replace Robinson for the second test against New Zealand.

The first test at the Lord’s resulted in a draw. Both England and New Zealand will be looking forward to winning this second test and kick start their summer of cricket with a victory.

Around 18,000 spectators will be allowed at the stadium each day, with a negative COVID report. This will create an electric atmosphere for the players. England’s government will also allow spectators in the ICC World Test Championship Final at Southampton.
